Technology Day is an annual conference organized by the Siemens PLM partner ‘IDEAL PLM CIS’. Each year it gathers CAx and PLM experts from Russia and CIS.
The conference had two main sections, one dedicated to NX and one to Teamcenter. Here I show what I have found interesting.
The presentations were started with “Metrovagonmash”, a Russian designer and manufacturer of underground railway trains.
First, the history of NX use was shown. The first models were developed in early nineties. At that time the 3D geometries were done in relatively low detail.
Gradually, the level of detail was increasing, and project was run for transferring 2D drawings into 3D. Over 10k documents were processed resulting in around 11k unique 3D models of components.
Currently, NX assemblies form the base for:
- Modernization projects
- Spare parts electronic catalog
- User guides
- A training environment for underground train drivers
Maxim Semenenko. Maximizing output from NX CAD seats
Maxim Semenenko, IDEAL PLM’s CAD solutions leader, told about ways to increase output from NX CAD seats. His suggestions included implementation of Top-Down design strategy, Reuse Library, Product Template Studio and finally customization of NX using NX Open API.
The NX CAM section has shown the CAM automation tools and examples of simulations.
Samara State Aerospace University
Maxim Nekhoroshev of SSAU did an outstanding presentation about projects completed in NX. According to him, a strong team of NX specialists got developed in the university. They positively influenced the way the entire Samara region uses CAD. The team has trained multiple enterprises and helped to implement design and manufacturing projects. The university also supported some startups with their NX modeling knowledge and skills.
Some interesting projects were not related to large enterprises, but to startups and product development. One of examples was a dentist, who invented an new device for measuring characteristics of human bite, and needed help with digital prototyping. Maxim did all 3D modeling and additive printing support, which eventually ensured the successful introduction of the product.
Other projects presented were related to aerospace industry, energy sector and industrial machinery; modeling, reverse engineering and CAM.
